Most linen returns are not about scratch. They are about a fitted sheet that fits a 1998 mattress. Modern hybrids, pillow-tops, and toppers are deep. A beautiful flax sheet that springs off at 2 a.m. is the wrong sheet.
What to type into the results
Open the Amazon search this site links to, then narrow by your size — Queen, King, California King. Inside a listing, find pocket depth before you fall for the color. If the number is missing, assume it is shallow.
- Queen mattresses are 60 by 80 inches. A useful linen flat is often around 96 by 102 or larger.
- King is wider, not longer, than queen on most beds: about 76 by 80. California king is longer and a little narrower: about 72 by 84.
- Twin XL is the dorm and adjustable-base size. Do not buy a standard twin for an 80-inch mattress.
Use the size guide on this site, then open Amazon and confirm the inches in that specific listing. Brands do not share one pattern.
Who it suits
- Mattresses 11–18 inches thick
- Pillow-tops and hybrids
- Anyone who has returned a popped-off fitted sheet
On this guide
My sheet fits but the corners are loose. Is that normal?
A little ease is normal. A corner you can pull off with one tug is not. You want elastic that holds without a bed strap.
Should I buy straps instead of a deeper pocket?
Straps are a patch. A deep enough pocket is the fix. Straps also chew the elastic on a linen fitted sheet.
